In the Oscar Pistorius case who killed his girl friend, the prosecution has said on Friday that he should be jailed for at least 10 years for killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. The sensational trial has approached its climax. Slapping down defense’s claims that the Olympic athlete had already suffered adequate, prosecutor Gerrie Nel said that the least that society will be happy with is 10 years of prison.
After hearing the final arguments from both the prosecution as well as from defense, the Judge listed sentencing for next Tuesday. Lawyer for Pistorius, Barry Roux said that Pistorius was not a killer and should serve a less harmful sentence like house arrest without any time in South Africa’s tough prisons. The defense has suggested that his punishment could include cleaning a museum for 16 hours a month.

Pistorius who is just 27 has admitted of killing his girl friend Reeva Steenkamp with the help of a gun. He had fired four shots through a locked toilet door in his up market home in Pretoria on Valentine’s Day last year. After that he said that he thought she was an intruder. The prosecution pressed hard for a certainty for murder and charged that Pistorius’s claim was unlikely and that he had killed the 29 year old model and law graduate after an argument.
Judge Masipa set free him of murder and this thing provoked a widespread controversy and found him guilty of responsible homicide for which he could be sentenced to anything from a fine to 15 years in prison. Oscar Pistorius wept in the court dock as his lawyer said he had previously suffered enough for killing Reeva Steenkamp, telling the double amputee sprinter’s shocking fall from disabled icon and sporting fame to a hated criminal.
His laywer said that Oscar has lost everything, he was an youth icon in the eyes of South Africa and he also said that Pistorius had lost the woman he loved, his friends and all of his immovable properties. Whatever sentence the athlete might receives, his profitable sporting career is tarnished for eternity and all of his major sponsors had cancelled his contracts.
