U.N. report: Our oceans are trashed with plastic

There has been a damage of $13 billion each year due to plastic waste in oceans. This was reported by UNEP where it also mentioned that the figure might be higher than that has been estimated. By the year 2050 it has been projected that it would reach to 33 billion tons where plastic makes up 80% of litter on shorelines and oceans.

UNEP Executive Director Achim Steiner said that plastics undoubtedly play a very important role in modern life but one cannot ignore the environmental impacts of the way that they use.

According to weekly world news, more than 10 to 20 million tons plastic end up in the ocean and that too each year from poorly managed landfills, litters and other sources. To get more current world news, do try to visit this space daily to remain updated.
